Ajax StarterKit is a functional GSM alarm system designed to protect residential buildings, shops, and offices. It is considered an excellent solution for building a reliable security system.
How It Works
The Ajax StarterKit alarm system includes four devices:
- Hub;
- Motion detector;
- Door/window opening detector;
- Key fob.
This configuration is sufficient to prevent unauthorized access and respond to various emergency situations. The Ajax StarterKit alarm system is controlled remotely. All you need is to install a dedicated app on a smartphone or tablet running Android or iOS.
If required, the Ajax StarterKit wireless alarm system can be connected to a monitoring center. Requests are sent via the mobile software.
Advantages of Ajax StarterKit
The Ajax StarterKit offers numerous advantages. The key ones include:
- Easy control. Sensors can be armed or disarmed, their sensitivity adjusted, and new devices added. All of this can be done from a smartphone or computer in just a few clicks.
- Hi-End quality. The Ajax StarterKit security system is designed from scratch. Premium components and innovative technologies are used, all housed in compact and miniature devices.
- Stable communication. Sensors communicate with the hub via the Jeweller radio protocol. It allows encrypted signal transmission over distances of up to 1200 m. If jamming is detected, the system automatically switches frequencies and triggers an alarm.
- Protection against any emergencies. In case of power outage, the system switches to a backup battery. If a sensor is damaged, you will be notified. If the internet connection is lost, alarms are transmitted via a backup GSM channel. Attempts to tamper with sensors, scan the protocol, or jam the radio channel are immediately detected. The manufacturer has accounted for everything.
- Minimal false alarms. The Ajax StarterKit White ignores pets, drafts, curtain movement, and other common interferences, significantly reducing false alarms.
- Stable operation on any communication channel. Even in remote locations without broadband internet, the system operates reliably, as the IoT protocol works at speeds as low as 0.5 Kbit/s.
- Up to 7 years on a single battery. The system is designed with energy efficiency in mind. One battery can last from 3 to 7 years depending on the number of connected sensors, eliminating frequent battery replacements.
- Easy installation. Sensors are ready to use out of the box and do not require configuration. Installation follows a step-by-step guide, and the system itself tests communication quality to determine optimal placement.
- Collective security. Ajax StarterKit White can send notifications not only to you but also to relatives or neighbors. You simply need to grant them access, which can be critical when an incident occurs while you are away.
Reliability of Ajax StarterKit
The hub receives data via the secure Jeweller radio channel within a range of up to 1200 m, allowing sensors to be installed even in multi-story residential or commercial buildings.
The Jeweller technology provides exceptional protection. Ajax StarterKit Black instantly responds to break-ins, fires, or other emergencies and immediately notifies the property owner. It also protects against sabotage: attempts to jam the signal, damage sensors, or cut power are detected instantly.
Jeweller operates 24/7. Sensors send signals every 12 seconds, and if one fails to respond, you will receive a notification within 30 seconds.
Ajax Technologies

Liked:
Ease of installation;
Design — it is excellent;
Grade 2 certification, which allows connection to professional monitoring services;
Built-in temperature sensors;
SIM card included with a favorable tariff — no need to replace anything, just activate, top up, and it works.
Disliked:
No option to arm/disarm the system via an empty phone call;
No siren included in the kit — must be purchased separately;
No Wi-Fi support;
SpaceControl key fob did not reliably arm/disarm between floors (red blinking), worked only near the apartment door (brick house, hub located in a distant room). The next day it was possible to arm between floors, but one floor down it still failed;
No forum on the official website;
No information on firmware versions and detailed change logs on the website;
Battery capacity could be higher;
Impossible to completely disable the logo backlight;
High price.
Additional comments and suggestions:
The ability to arm/disarm the system via an empty phone call is greatly missed. It would be useful to add a user setting with a list of authorized phone numbers (without email binding) for this purpose;
Considering the presence of temperature sensors, it would be desirable to implement notifications when a predefined temperature threshold is exceeded;
The new Hub version is expected to add Wi-Fi and support for two SIM cards (hopefully Ethernet will remain and LTE support will be added);
The price is a significant barrier — many acquaintances lost interest after learning the cost, preferring cheaper systems, despite arguments about security risks of alternative solutions;
It is unclear how many votes an idea needs in the “Ideas & Suggestions” section on the website to be implemented in firmware updates;
The lack of a forum is confusing — it could reduce the load on technical support and allow users to communicate with like-minded people;
If only Push notifications are enabled and the door is opened and closed quickly, DoorProtect triggers briefly: the phone siren sounds and a notification arrives, but stops immediately after the door is closed. In noisy environments, this brief alert may go unnoticed. Enabling Call notifications helps, as the Hub also notifies via phone call. It would be better if the siren triggered by Push notifications continued until manually disabled.

Liked: Build quality, autonomous operation, motion detection response, control via smartphone app and key fob.
Disliked: The price is quite high, but quality and security are worth it.
User experience: One year or more.
We installed this system the summer before last. The kit includes motion sensors, a door opening/closing sensor, and, of course, the hub. All sensors are battery-powered, and the batteries need to be replaced only once every few years.
The hub operates via multiple communication channels: Wi-Fi and GSM. An additional audible siren was installed as well — it is extremely loud, almost ear-piercing.
If you have pets at home, sensitivity adjustment is required.

Liked: Design;
Stable operation;
User-friendly application;
Long battery life of sensors (efficient power consumption);
Built-in backup battery in the central hub;
Availability of GSM communication.
Disliked: The app notification is always displayed in the notification tray (you get used to it over time, but it is still worth mentioning).
User experience: One year or more.
An excellent home security system (and now also a smart home solution) that can be easily connected to professional security companies (although I still have not done that myself).
It is great that Ajax products retain good value on the secondary market. I have already upgraded my system — sold the hub and purchased a Hub Plus, and added extra sensors.
I am also planning to buy a leak protection kit and a smoke/carbon monoxide detector.

Liked: Easy setup.
Disliked: Overpriced. The siren must be purchased separately. The indoor siren at maximum volume is only slightly louder than an electronic alarm clock, despite the Ajax siren price starting from UAH 1200. Connecting a wired siren also adds extra cost.
User experience: A few days.
Suitable for connection to professional security monitoring services. For use as a standalone alarm system, it may be an option only if budget is not a concern.
Connecting a third-party siren would require a WallSwitch (UAH 850) + siren starting from UAH 200 + power supply + installation work.
Alarm systems from Ukrainian manufacturers can cost about half as much, although they may not be as visually appealing.
